Experience Abroad Testimonials: Interview with Jake Montolo
November 19, 2024An interview with Jake Montolo, a former BridgeUSA (J-1) participant, highlights his journey from training as a Front Office Butler at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas, Texas, to pursuing an Executive-style MBA in Los Angeles, California.
In this blog interview with Jake Montolo, he opens up about his transformative experience as a J-1 participant and the steps that led him to aim for new professional heights.
How was your experience during your BridgeUSA (J-1) Internship Program?
“My BridgeUSA program experience was amazing! I was assigned as a Front Office Butler Trainee at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas, Texas. I was able to enhance a set of skills, particularly in front office operations and guest services, and it inspired me to pursue a career. I was recognized as a Brand Ambassador twice because of my exceptional service and dedication. I also had the chance to travel to a few famous cities like New York City, Chicago, and San Francisco. Overall, it was a transformative and rewarding experience.”
How did the BridgeUSA (J-1) program affect your personal and professional life?
“Personally, it contributed to my cultural understanding and way of thinking. By meeting diverse people, you start to appreciate where they are coming from, leading to respect for everyone, regardless of their status or race. Professionally, it enhanced my skills, and I learned a new set of skills. I discovered these crucial skills that I didn’t expect to learn, which I know will greatly benefit my career.”
What do you believe are the advantages of participating in the BridgeUSA (J-1) Program?
“First, the cultural immersion—you get to experience the American way of life and how business runs there on a daily basis. The advanced training program is incredibly beneficial for your future career. Being a BridgeUSA participant gives you valuable experiences and a competitive edge when pursuing a career in hospitality or tourism.”
What made you decide to apply for the Executive MBA program?
“I believe learning is a never-ending process. My cultural exchange program and my desire to pursue a doctorate degree in the Philippines are two big reasons why I decided to pursue my master’s. It was Mr. Ariel Cinco who introduced me to the program. Initially, I was hesitant, but eventually, I thought, why not? It could be beneficial both personally and professionally. So, I took the chance.”
What are your plans after you complete the Executive-style MBA program?
“Once I complete my master’s, I plan to return to the Philippines to pursue my doctorate. My family is here, and I hope to also get a position as a college instructor at the university I graduated from.”
What are you most excited about going back again to the US?
“I’m really excited to study and grow at Alliant International University in Los Angeles and to meet other international students. I’m also looking forward to experiencing the four seasons again, with all the amazing views, cities, and skyscrapers. And, of course, I’m excited to dive back into the American way of life and appreciate everything that comes with it.”
Would you recommend Experience Abroad to other students, recent graduates, and professionals?
“If you’re interested in pursuing an Executive MBA Program in the U.S., Experience Abroad is an amazing opportunity. They offer a range of concentrations beyond hospitality management, so reach out to them on Facebook for more details. I highly recommend Experience Abroad to other hospitality students and young professionals. Without them, I wouldn’t have made it this far. The application process with them was smooth and top-notch—from my initial inquiry to getting my visa and support while I was in the U.S. Five stars indeed!”
